Colleen Allen

Biography

Colleen Allen (saxophonist) Alberta born Allen is known as a charismatic and sensitive alto, tenor and soprano saxophonist. Her teachers include Pat LaBarbera, Kirk McDonald and Mike Murley. Her diverse performances includes sharing the stage with such artists as Anne Murray, Holly Cole and Rita McNeill and Molly Johnson – with whom she has recorded 2 albums. “Words like beautiful and lovely aren’t mainstays in a critics vocabulary but they keep forcing their way to the front of consciousness in multi-instrumentalist Colleen Allen’s self titled debut CD as leader” wrote Geoff Chapman in the Toronto Star in February 2007 of her first CD featuring such talents as Dave Restivo and George Koller.

As well as leading her own ensembles, projects with Cirque du Soleil and Soulpepper Theatre and her group “Women with Horns” she maintains a busy touring, performing and recording schedule.
