Biography

DON MOYE also known as FAMOUDOU DON MOYE (drummer, percussionist) was born May 23, 1946 in Rochester, New York. Moye is best known for his association with the avant garde Art Ensemble of Chicago, becoming their first drummer/percussionist. A protégé of trumpeter Charles Moore, whose Detroit Free Jazz band he also performed with, Moye became a master of African And Caribbean percussion. His dedication to the tradition of African American music has meant leading such groups as the Sun Percussion Summit and co-leading the Joseph Jarman/Famoudou Don Moye Magic Triangle Band.
