Francois Bourassa

Biography

Francois Bourassa (pianist, composer) was born in Montreal in 1959. His comtemporary jazz trio comprised of brothers Yves Boisvert on drums and Guy Boisvert on bass has been a vital part of Quebec’s jazz scene since it’s formation in 1983.

Drawing from not only from such influences as Bill Evans and Wayne Shorter but also the classical realm, the trio performs a repertoire consisting largely of Francois’ orginals, touring nationally and internationally. They were selected to represent Quebec and Canada at Expo 92 in Seville Spain. Francois’ honours include the 2001 and 2002 Juno Award for Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year and the 2007 Oscar Peterson Prize from the Montreal International Jazz Festival.
